Mid-century, Thiers, France – Silverplate blades, maker marked “ZUX”
“This is the kind of flatware you’d find at a well-laid table in a countryside château — timeless, textural, and meant to be used.”
This rare set of twelve vintage knives is a stunning example of mid-century French tableware craftsmanship, likely from the famed cutlery workshops of Thiers, France. Each knife features a richly marbled faux horn handle in tones of cream, honey, and tobacco, fitted with gleaming silverplate blades and hallmarked with the maker’s mark ZUX, etched alongside a stylized tower.
The knives come nestled in their original emerald green lizard-texture presentation case, lined in cream satin, with gold-toned clasps that still work smoothly. These were likely reserved for entertaining — the kind of heirloom set given as a wedding gift and cherished across generations.
Perfect for cheese courses, fruit, or charcuterie — and just as impressive displayed on an open shelf or layered into a holiday table.
