A magnificent example of mid-century French copper artistry, this large fruit mold showcases a stunning relief of pears, cherries, berries, and leaves — a lavish composition that once crowned elaborate French desserts. The deep repoussé design, surrounded by a beaded border, gives this mold an architectural presence that captures the light beautifully whether hung on the wall or displayed on a kitchen shelf.
Measuring an impressive 13.5" x 11.5" x 4", this moule à fruits was likely crafted in Villedieu-les-Poêles, Normandy — the centuries-old hub of French coppersmithing — and is attributed to Lucien Lecellier, whose workshop produced molds and cookware marked “L. Lecellier, Modèle Déposé.” His craftsmanship was known for its heavy-gauge copper, fine casting, and perfect tin linings that made each piece as functional as it was beautiful.
The “D L” initials integrated into the mold’s design likely reference a pattern or workshop series, not a later owner — a hallmark of mid-20th-century French copper production when artisans often personalized molds with symbolic monograms or catalog codes.
Intended for grand entremets — molded jellies, charlottes, or even savory pâtés — molds like this were the showpieces of a formal table, their intricate designs creating edible sculptures when unmolded. Today, it remains a breathtaking collector’s piece — an heirloom fragment of the French kitchen’s golden age.
