Hand-painted Provençal faïence with Chinoiserie motif – c. 1930s–1950s

Description

A radiant marriage of French country charm and whimsical Chinoiserie, this hand-painted vinegar (V) and oil (H – huile) cruet set embodies the joyful color and artistry of mid-century French pottery.

Rendered in sunny saffron glaze with scalloped edging and brilliant blue detailing, each cruet features birds in flight among flowering vines and a pagoda-like dovecote — a distinctly French interpretation of the chinoiserie aesthetic that swept through southern faïence houses like Vallauris and Moustiers in the 1930s–1950s.

The set is complete — two handled cruets with lids nestled into their original double caddy — and entirely hand-painted under a luminous clear glaze, giving each piece a gentle sheen and painterly warmth. The colors remain vivid, with just the right amount of age and imperfection to tell their story honestly.

Whether gracing your kitchen counter with olive oil and vinegar or standing proudly among your copper and linens, this rare set brings that unmistakable touch of French Provençal joie de vivre to your Everyday Château — with a dash of exotic flair.
