Antique French Wooden Wine Bottle Corker | Bouchonneuse | From the Luberon, Provence
$65.00
Bouchonneuse A-D
Description

Each of these hand-turned French bouchonneuses originated in the Luberon region of Provence, where generations of families corked their own bottles of wine and cider by hand. Today, they stand as sculptural tributes to the craftsmanship and rhythm of Old World winemaking.

A. Far left. The palest of the four, Corker A features a buttery-cream lacquer finish worn smooth from age, with faint black banding at the base that lends a subtle Art Deco appeal. Likely crafted in the early 20th century, it hails from the Luberon region of Provence, where families once bottled their own table wine and cider. Once purely practical, it’s now a sculptural accent that brings warmth and authenticity to any kitchen or bar.

Bouchonneuse B bears a deep walnut-toned patina and a slightly heavier body than its counterparts, suggesting it saw steady use in a small vineyard or café cellar. Its rounded handle and balanced proportions show both craftsmanship and purpose. Originating from the Luberon, this corker embodies the region’s quiet, workaday beauty — rustic, handsome, and enduring.

With its soft honeyed tone and gracefully worn handle, Corker C captures the charm of rural Provençal life. Likely dating to the 1920s or 1930s, it was once used to hand-seal bottles of local wine for family tables across the Luberon Valley. Its sculptural form and warm patina make it a striking decorative piece for any wine lover’s home.

Far right. The most refined of the set, Corker D features pale blond wood accented by a slim metal band near the base — a small, elegant detail hinting at professional use. Crafted and used in the Luberon region of Provence, it evokes a slower era of winemaking and simple craftsmanship. Whether styled beside vintage glassware or on a kitchen shelf, it’s a conversation piece with soul.
