Description
This large piece captures a quieter side of Paris and a look at the historical right bank Marais neighborhood—where the streets curve gently around centuries-old stone and the architecture carries the weight of history without feeling heavy.
Depicting the Hôtel de Sens in the Marais, the composition draws you inward, with soft light and muted tones that give the painting a calm, grounded presence. There is structure here, but also softness—the kind that comes from time, observation, and a steady hand.
The Hotel of Sens is one of the most precious vestiges of medieval civil architecture in Paris, located in the heart of the Marais district. Built between 1475 and 1519, this manor house once served as the Parisian residence of the archbishops of Sens. Today, it houses the Forney Library, an institution specializing in decorative arts and crafts.
At 24 x 30, it holds space beautifully. Not just a decorative piece, but one that anchors a room and invites you into it. Signed “Giacomelli” in the lower right corner.
