Description
Here are two 'Petit Paroissien'; small Catholic prayer books complete with souvenirs stuck between the pages, gold stars on the page edges and one buckle remains.
The date in one of the books says 1763, though I imagine these books are more likely early/mid 1800s.
A Paroissien Romain is a type of Catholic prayer book, specifically used for the Roman Rite, that contains the prayers and liturgies for daily and Sunday Mass, as well as other devotional practices for parishioners (paroissiens) to follow. It typically includes the text of the Mass, prayers for different occasions, and sometimes psalms, hymns, and reflections. These books were especially popular in France in the 19th and early 20th centuries and are often ornately designed, with detailed engravings, gilded edges, and sometimes leather bindings. These small books are leather and in lovely conditionn considering their age.
These books are over 150 years old and show the normal wear and staining of a leather bound book of their age, all things considered, in excellent condition.
