Description
A peaceful river, russet sails and a pale arched bridge: this charming unframed “survivor” brings the quiet poetry of a riverside afternoon to a collected home. Deep green trees frame the water, while a warm ochre path draws the eye toward the boats and buildings beyond.
Identified on our shop label as a student piece après James Isaiah Lewis, circa 1910–1930. “Après” means “after”: this is a work following the artist’s example, not an original by Lewis.
We love its gentle palette and timeworn presence, whether displayed on a shelf or incorporated into a gallery wall.
Condition: Sold unframed and as found. This piece has pronounced wear, including a tear and exposed support at the left edge, losses and roughness along the edges, and scattered surface marks and abrasions. The photographs show these details and form an important part of the description. A characterful decorative survivor, offered with its imperfections plainly visible.
